The Den at Azabu | Michelin-Starred Craftsmanship

The Art of Omakase & Culinary Portraiture

Located within the Marriott Stanton South Beach, The Den at Azabu is an intimate, Michelin-starred sanctuary dedicated to the Edomae-style omakase tradition. This project was a visual exploration of authentic Japanese craftsmanship, focusing on the bridge between tradition and modernity in one of Miami’s most acclaimed dining rooms.

The visual narrative centered on capturing the «Masterpiece» in the making—documenting the Tokyo-trained chefs as they transform premium ingredients flown in daily from Japan into a culinary spectacle. The goal was to portray the precision, the silence, and the warmth of Japanese hospitality (Omotenashi) through a blend of environmental portraits and detailed action photography that reflects the high standards of the Michelin Guide.

NOTES
The technical challenge of this shoot was managing the intimate and low-light atmosphere of this Michelin-starred space while maintaining the natural textures of the fresh fish and the chefs’ technical precision. My approach involved using subtle, directional lighting to preserve the «theater-like» experience of the preparation without disrupting the room’s serenity. By focusing on the chefs’ hands and the meticulous care of ingredients, we captured more than a meal—we documented a transportive experience where the «feeling» of the moment is as vital as the visual aesthetic.
